The DO's and DON'TS of Spots

There's nothing worse than going to bed with a flawless complexion and waking up with a massive spot on your chin. We've all been there. It can leave you feeling anything but fabulous. So we've compiled our ultimate Do's and Don'ts to stop that pesky overnight pimple from ruining your day.

Do's

Ice, Ice Baby

Who knew that Ice could be used for anything other than Iced Coffee and after work Cocktails? Well, it can, and it might just be your spotty faced saviour! Before you reach for your cold brew in the morning, grab an ice cube and apply to the affected area. It can help reduce swelling and redness around a pesky pimple, particularly useful for those sore and angry pimples. The cold also helps to improve blood circulation to the infected area and will work to tighten the pores of the skin. It's going to take more than just this to make it disappear completely (they are stubborn little guys) but it's an easy way to instantly reduce the appearance of redness and stop it look like a Volcano ready to erupt.

Benzyl Peroxide

It might sound like something that you were warned against touching in High School Chemistry, but it's actually a skin saving ingredient found in many over the counter creams. Look out for mild Acne and spot creams that contain Benzyl Peroxide. It's benefits are the antibacterial properties that kill spot causing dirt and bacteria. It also works to remove excess oil from the skin that may be clogging up your pores.

H2O

Might sound like the most of basic of advice, but hear us out! Keeping hydrated not only works to flush out toxins accumulated in the body, perhaps from one cheeky Wine Wednesday too many? But adequate hydration in general also flushes bad bacteria from the skin and over time you will start to see brighter, plumper and more glowing skin!  So keep wine face at bay, and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

DON'TS

Pop it

We know, easier said than done! But if you take one bit of advice from this blog, it avoids squeezing spots if you possibly can! It's not worth risking potential infection, scarring or scabs that are almost impossible to cover up! Left alone, a spot can disappear within the week, but burst spots can linger for weeks, and if the bacteria is allowed to spread it can lead to further infection or even more blemishes. If you do happen to find yourself having a squeeze, make sure you clean the area right away to stop the potential spreading of more spot causing bacteria.

Over Washing

Scrubbing the face too often, too long, or over using too many chemicals and heavy products can send the skin's oil production into overdrive.  THis means that when you think you are giving it a good clean, it's really just producing more oil, that subsequentially clogs pores and creates blemishes in the skin. We suggest, in place of heavy makeup removers chemical filled wipes opting for a gentle WipeOut! Microfibre cleansing cloth which removes all traces of makeup using only water. A less harsh step before following with the Barefaced Vibra-Sonic™ brush. Leaving your skin clean, without over stimulating!

Toothpaste

There are just some things that should never be put on your skin. Including toothpaste, lemon juice (ouch!) and egg whites to name just a few! It's understandable that you want to try anything possible to try and get rid of a spot, but falling for myths on the internet can be more harmful than you think! It's best to stick to expertly formulated creams and acne treatments dermatologically recommended.

Don't subject your poor skin to the skincare myths. Show it some love!
